SVONKIN FOR SCHOOL BOARD CAMPAIGN RECEIVES TREMENDOUS SUPPORT FROM AREA LEADERS
SAN GABRIEL - Scott Svonkin's campaign for San Gabriel School Board got off to a strong start with a large showing of supporters at his campaign kick-off event yesterday, at Mission 261 Restaurant in San Gabriel.
"There is no more noble profession than teaching and I have tremendous respect for the teachers who are educating our children," said Svonkin, who comes from a family of educators. "I am very passionate about making our community better and I believe the best place to start is by improving our schools and the lives of our children."
Svonkin also talked about improving student achievement, increasing parental involvement, and implementing innovative practices as his focus if elected to the School Board. Supporters at last night's event included Judy Chu, Vice Chair of the State Board of Equalization and Assemblyman Mike Eng. Also in attendance were members of the San Gabriel School Board and the San Gabriel City Council.
"Scott Svonkin is an energetic and involved community member" said Colleen Doan, San Gabriel School Board President. "Scott attends School Board meetings on a regular basis and offers thoughtful comment and suggestions. He has been actively and vocally supportive of the recent actions of the School Board, aimed at community and parental involvement, increased test scores and safety on our campuses. Scott Svonkin will be a very strong member of the San Gabriel Unified School Board."
"Scott is not a complainer; he is a doer. If he sees room for improvement, he steps forward and takes action," said Chu. "Scott will make an outstanding addition to the San Gabriel School Board and will work hard to make sure that every child gets a full opportunity to succeed."
Svonkin has also been endorsed by Lieutenant Government John Garamendi, State Controller John Chiang, and the San Gabriel Police Officers and Fire Fighters Associations.
Svonkin was born and raised in the San Gabriel Valley. He resides in San Gabriel with his wife Jennifer and their two children, Rose and Sam.
